Slow browsing when running a torrent client

Many people have recently asked me why their browsing gets slow when they have their torrent client started - even though they aren't downloading/uploading anything!

Most of those people are using uTorrent or the BitTorrent client (pretty much the same), and on top of that, most of those people use NOD32 as their anti virus software.

For those people I think (recent discovery) NOD32 cause the problems.

NOD32 has a feature called "Web Access Protection", which checks all the connections made from your computer to the internet, to examine if it's a web page request or (it should) leave it alone.

In NOD's preferences you will have the option to exlude programs from that check.

To do this:

  1. Go to Display: Standard mode
  2. Toggle to Advanced mode
  3. Then press F5
  4. Go to Web Access Protection
  5. Go to HTTP
  6. Go to Web browsers
  7. Find your torrent client in the list
  8. Putt a cross in the appropriate box

If that doesn't solve the problem, you could try to disable the Web Protection feature altogether.

To disable the Web Access Protection in NOD32:

  1. Display: Standard mode
  2. Toggle to Advanced mode
  3. Press F5
  4. Look for Web Access Protection
  5. Uncheck the box that enables the web access protection.

NOTE: You  MAY need to reboot your computer or restart your torrent client to let the changes start working properly!
