Your hard disk drive crashes?

Happens to everyone sooner or later.

If you've got some important stuff on your HDD that crashed and you want to try ANYTHING to get it back, this is for you!

I found a PDF document a while back that has plenty of tricks you could try out, but not only that... it contains feedback from users that tried out the different methods!

(Maybe it sounds pretty wired that it's in a pdf and not on a web page,  but that's the way it is.)

It's called "200 ways to revive a hard drive" - google it here if you want.

Or get my copy: http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/286265/computers/200ways.pdf

Connected USB device stop working?

My self, I'm having a Bluetooth dongle that's connected to my cellphone all the time when I'm at home... for that I need to turn of the power saving mode in Windows XP. Here is how  you do it!

  1. In Windows, click on Start > Control Panel (or Start > Settings > Control Panel).
  2. Double-click on System, then open the Hardware tab.
  3. Click Device Manager.
  4. Click the + at Universal Serial Bus Controllers.
  5. Right-click USB Root Hub and select Properties.
  6. Open the Power Management tab.
  7. Clear the checkmark from "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power".
  8. Click OK.
  9. Repeat this procedure for all the USB Root Hub entries you wish.

svchost.exe/wuaueng.dll 100% cpu usage

After returning the computer from a standby the svchost.exe is running at 100% cpu for 5-10 minutes?

Try this:

From a command session, type carefully: net stop wuauserv rmdir c:\windows\softwaredistribution /s net start wuauserv
